STATEMENT OF THE JOB

Employee must possess 100 ton US Coast Guard License and US Coast Guard Sailing Endorsement. Employee operates multiple Academy small craft. Employee is responsible for the day to day maintenance projects on various Academy small craft. Employee must also have a high degree of mechanical ability. Employee has a high degree of public contact representing the Academy. Employee will provide input for budget and report preparation.

DUTIES OF THE JOB

1.      Responsible for daily operation and maintenance of various Academy small craft.

2.      Employee must be prepared to be away from the Academy on vessel charters from time to time.

3.      Under the direction of the Marine Operations Manager or his designee, the employee is expected to perform multiple boat trips for the Ocean Science programs as well as other Academy programs.

4.      Directs and performs maintenance and repair of various small craft, equipment, machinery, cleaning, and painting.

5.      Directs and assists with loading/unloading of gear and equipment for various small craft uses.

6.      Maintains deck, engine, and radio logbooks on designated small craft.

7.      Recommends to Marine Operations Manager or designee equipment and supply needs or problems.

8.      Assists with timely inspections of safety, lifesaving, fire fighting and other emergency equipment.

9.      Employee will also be relief Captain or crew on the vessel "Pentagoet" or other

      vessels as assigned.

10.  Employee may be required to teach some Academy undergraduate courses.

11.  May supervise student and/or regular Academy employees.
