CASTINE, Maine—One of Maine Maritime Academy’s most popular hubs for student and community activity will receive an overhaul during the next two weeks. The Academy’s Cardio Fitness and Weight Rooms are slated to receive new equipment and other upgrades as part of a campus-wide initiative spearheaded by the Department of Athletics and Recreation, with financial assistance from the Student Life Department.
CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) Continuing Education will offer a new 40-hour intensive course in July—Fundamentals of Geographic Information Science (GIS)—for working professionals and those seeking to increase their technical knowledge of GIS.

CASTINE, Maine – The Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) Training Ship State of Maine will make a stopover in Eastport, Maine on Saturday, June 29,2013. While the ship is in port, MMA students will escort visitors on tours of the 500-foot, 16,000-ton training vessel. Tours will leave from the ship’s deck every 15 minutes beginning at 10:00 a.m. and ending at 2:00 p.m. Due to shipboard security, visitors will be subject to search and will not be permitted to bring handbags, purses, backpacks, or carry anything other than cameras, which are encouraged.
CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy recently named students to their Dean’s List for outstanding academic achievement in the second semester of the 2012-2013 academic year. Students named to the Dean’s List earn a grade point average of 3.3 or above on a 4.0 scale.
Castine, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) vessels will deploy the first grid-connected floating offshore wind turbine off of Dyce Head, its test location, between Saturday, June 1 and Monday, June 3, 2013. Deployment of the one-eighth scale turbine, the VolturnUS 1:8, will take place in stages: MMA vessels will tow the turbine from the Cianbro modular manufacturing facility in Brewer to Bucksport and moor it until the next outgoing tide June 2, when it will be towed to Dyce Head and moored for the following 30 days. On Monday, June 3 the turbine will be connected to the power grid. The turbine will rise approximately 60 feet above its floating concrete platform.
CASTINE, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy’s schooner Bowdoin, a national historic landmark and the official vessel of the State of Maine, will set sail for Canadian waters on Saturday, June 1st. Thirteen Academy students in the Vessel Operations and Technology program will navigate and maintain the 88-foot tall ship as part of their at-sea training during the month of June.
CASTINE, Maine – The International Guild of Miniature Artisans (IGMA) will be hosting the 32nd annual Guild School at Maine Maritime Academy from June 8-15 with free exhibitions for the public Sunday through Wednesday, June 9 - 12 (9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) and on Thursday, June 13 (9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.).
CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy students, officers, and crew will depart Castine on Thursday, May 9, to visit Canadian, U.S., and Caribbean ports as part of the college’s annual two-month training cruise to foreign and domestic ports of call. This year’s training cruise itinerary includes Tampa, Florida; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Baltimore, Maryland; Quebec, Canada; Eastport and Searsport, Maine.
