Maine Maritime Academy Board of Trustees to Hold Quarterly Meeting

Castine, Maine—The Maine Maritime Academy Board of Trustees will hold a regular quarterly meeting on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. in the Holmes Heritage Room, located at the Harold Alfond Student Center on the campus in Castine.

Castine Community Invited to MMA Homecoming Events

Comedian Bob Marley to Perform Friday Evening, September 20th
CASTINE, Maine— The Maine Maritime Academy Alumni Association has announced an open invitation to members of the Castine community to join this year's Homecoming festivities on Friday evening, September 20th. The evening will kick off at 6:30 in the Alexander Field House with live music by The Grasshoppers, followed by a performance by comedian Bob Marley. Hors d'oeuvres will be served and a cash bar will be available.

Maine Maritime Academy to Dedicate Navigation Training Vessel in Honor of Alumna, Trustee, and First Female Portland Harbor Pilot: Capt. Susan J. Clark

CASTINE, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy will celebrate the life of Susan J. Clark and honor her service to the college with a ceremonial dedication of the Academy’s 70-foot navigation training vessel to be named the Capt. Susan J. Clark. The dedication will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at the Castine waterfront. Close friends, family, and fellow pilots will participate in the ceremony.

Maine Maritime Academy To Break Ground on ABS Center for Engineering, Science and Research

Building will be the First Classroom & Lab Facility to be Constructed on the Campus in 30 Years
CASTINE, Maine—On Saturday, September 21st, Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) will officially move forward and break ground for the first classroom facility to be built on the college campus in 30 years: the ABS Center for Engineering, Science and Research. The ceremonial shovel turning will be held as part of the MMA Homecoming festivities on September 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. on the lawn below the Alfond Student Center.

Maine Maritime Academy Receives Research Grant of $1.4 Million From U.S. Department Of Transportation to Develop Marine Engine Testing and Emissions Laboratory

CASTINE, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy has been awarded a University Transportation Center (UTC) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for $1,414,100 to develop a Marine Engine Testing and Emissions Laboratory (METEL). The DOT/UTC research grant is the largest received to date by Maine Maritime Academy and marks the first opportunity for the college to serve as lead research institution.

Voters Approve $4.5 Million Bond to Help Build First New Academic Facility in 30 Years at Maine Maritime Academy

CASTINE, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy will receive $4.5 million in state funding approved in yesterday’s state-wide referendum to help build the new ABS Center for Engineering, Science and Research. The building will feature interactive teaching facilities and specialized laboratories for training and for industry-relevant research.  Modern classrooms and research spaces will enhance the college’s applied research program and strengthen the Academy’s reputation as a world-wide marine engineering center of excellence.

CASTINE, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy’s annual Celebration of Achievement was held on Thursday evening, November 7th, to honor the scholarly accomplishments of students and the service of faculty, trustees and alumni.

Maine Maritime Academy Receives $93,605 Grant to Conduct Rockweed Research

CASTINE, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy has received a research grant in the amount of $93,605 from the Maine Economic Improvement Fund Small Campus Initiative to conduct rockweed research. Dr. Jessica Muhlin, Associate Professor of Marine Biology, will direct the project to conduct field and laboratory research on two types of seaweed: the commercially harvested Ascophyllum nodosumand the prevalent Fucus vesiculosus in order to understand their contributions to the near-shore food web and ecosystem.

Maine Maritime Academy Begins Construction of ABS Center for Engineering, Science & Research

Bangor Contractor Nickerson & O’Day Awarded Construction Contract
CASTINE, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy has begun construction of the first academic facility to be built on the college campus in 30 years: the ABS Center for Engineering, Science and Research. The construction process is estimated to be complete in 12 months, with occupancy planned for January, 2015. When complete, the 3-story, 30,000-square-foot building will provide state-of-the-art teaching and research laboratories
