CASTINE, Maine—Maine Maritime Academy has been awarded $450,000 by the U. S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science & Technology Directorate for the development and delivery of maritime ice navigation and first responder courses to complement the U.S. Coast Guard’s Arctic Strategy.
CASTINE, Maine—At Maine Maritime Academy’s Convocation on September 1, 2014 a new Dean addressed the students and community as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. Dr. David Gardner told the audience, “I want you to get involved, take responsibility for your success, and seek challenges. Don’t be a bystander. Take chances. Pull a rabbit from a hat: ace physics, recover a fumble on the football field, publish a research paper, create something wonderful, be a leader, stand up for what’s right. Surprise us. Amaze us. Make us go, “wow, how did that happen?”

Castine, Maine—The Maine Maritime Academy Board of Trustees held their annual meeting on Friday, August 8, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. in the Holmes Alumni Heritage Room, located at the Harold Alfond Student Center on the campus in Castine.

CASTINE, Maine—August 15, 2014—With a newly constructed laminated mast that was inspected and approved by the U.S. Coast Guard this week, Maine Maritime Academy’s schooner Bowdoin, a National Historic Landmark and the Official Vessel of the State of Maine, will set sail for Nova Scotia this weekend. Eleven ‘rising senior’ Academy students in the Vessel Operations and Technology program will navigate and maintain the 88-foot tall ship with the help of 5 crew members as part of their at-sea training during the month of August.

Public Tour Part of Gathering of William Hand Jr. & R.O. Davis Vessels
CASTINE, Maine—July 21, 2014—Maine Maritime Academy’s schooner Bowdoin, a National Historic Landmark and the Official Vessel of the State of Maine, will participate in an open-to-the-public gathering of vessels designed by William Hand Jr. and R.O. Davis this Saturday, July 26th from 3-6 pm.
