Maine Maritime Academy Board of Trustees to Hold Annual Meeting

Castine, Maine—The Maine Maritime Academy Board of Trustees will hold its annual meeting on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. in the Holmes Heritage Room, located at the Harold Alfond Student Center on the campus in Castine.

Public Welcome to Tour Schooner Bowdoin and See New Mast Under Construction

Public Tour Part of Gathering of William Hand Jr. & R.O. Davis Vessels


CASTINE, Maine—July 21, 2014—Maine Maritime Academy’s schooner Bowdoin, a National Historic Landmark and the Official Vessel of the State of Maine, will participate in an open-to-the-public gathering of vessels designed by William Hand Jr. and R.O. Davis this Saturday, July 26th from 3-6 pm.

Maine Maritime Academy Announces Dean’s List for Spring 2014

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy recently named students to their Dean’s List for outstanding academic achievement in the second semester of the 2013-2014 academic year. Students named to the Dean’s List earn a grade point average of 3.3 or above on a 4.0 scale.

Schooner Bowdoin Visits to Portland and Provincetown Canceled Due to Potential Compromise in Main Mast

Boothbay Harbor, Maine—June 25, 2014—Maine Maritime Academy has canceled upcoming visits to Portland and Provincetown due to a potential compromise in the vessel’s main mast, discovered during a routine rigging check on Monday.

Schooner Bowdoin to Invite Public Aboard in Provincetown, Massachusetts July 4 – 5, 2014

CASTINE, Maine—June 23, 2014—Maine Maritime Academy’s schooner Bowdoin, a National Historic Landmark and the Official Vessel of the State of Maine, will sail into Provincetown for the 4th of July. The Bowdoin will dock at MacMillan Pier in Provincetown Harbor. The ship’s crew and student sailors-in-training will host public open boat hours on Friday and Saturday, July 4th and 5th, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. both days.

Schooner Bowdoin Training Cruise Sets Sail, Open Boat Events Planned for Boothbay Harbor & Portland

CASTINE, Maine—June 16, 2014—Maine Maritime Academy’s schooner Bowdoin, a National Historic Landmark and the Official Vessel of the State of Maine, set sail for New York on Monday, June 2nd. Ten Academy students in the Vessel Operations and Technology program will navigate and maintain the 88-foot tall ship, with the help of 6 crew members, as part of their at-sea training during the month of June.

The International Guild of Miniature Artisans’ Guild School to be Held at Maine Maritime Academy, Free Exhibitions Open to the Public June 8 – 12

CASTINE, Maine – The International Guild of Miniature Artisans (IGMA) will be hosting the 33rd annual Guild School at Maine Maritime Academy from June 7-14 with free exhibitions for the public Sunday through Wednesday, June 8 - 11 (9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) and on Thursday, June 12 (9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.).

Students Honored at Maine Maritime Academy NROTC Spring 2014 Awards Ceremony

CASTINE, Maine – Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) students from Maine Maritime Academy (MMA), the University of Maine, and Husson University gathered at MMA for the annual Navy ROTC Awards Ceremony on April 14, 2014 to recognize the midshipmen’s achievements throughout the 2013-2014 school year.

Suspicious Package Found at Maine Maritime Academy Secured by State Police; Residence Hall Declared Safe for Students

Castine, Maine—April 29, 2014—A suspicious package was found in the Curtis Hall dormitory on the Maine Maritime Academy campus late this afternoon. The object was found during the routine check-out of a room being vacated for the summer. Curtis Hall was evacuated and students were encouraged to go to the Alfond Student Center, the gym , or the library until notified of the building’s safety.

Maine Maritime Academy Training Cruise to Depart May 7 for European Ports

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy students, officers, and crew will depart Castine on Wednesday, May 7, on the Training Ship State of Maine for the annual two-month training evolution to foreign and domestic ports of call. This year’s training cruise itinerary includes stops in Trieste, Italy; Reykjavik, Iceland; Kiel, Germany; Portsmouth, New Hampshire; and Searsport, Maine.
