Overview
Marine Science Five Year Cooperative
Option
Under this option, students may participate in two semester-length cooperative work educational experiences, being away for one fall and one spring semester during the last two years. Students should make arrangements through their advisor and Department Chair, if interested in this option.
January Course
A field course in marine science is currently offered in alternate years during the winter interterm period at the Caribbean Marine Research Center at Lee Stocking Island, Bahamas. Students may register for this course with permission of their advisor and the Department Chair.
- Broad-based science curriculum encompasses the study of chemistry, biology, physics, geology, writing and communications, computer science, mathematics, humanities, social sciences.
- Prepares generalists in the field of marine science, with particular emphasis on the development of problem-solving and decision-making skills in an ocean setting.
- Graduates of the program may pursue employment in the various fields of marine sciences (resource management, aquaculture, research, environmental protection, science education, or oceanography, to name a few possibilities) or graduate education.
- Our Loeb-Sullivan School of International Business & Logistics offers a special 4 + 1 option for obtaining a Master of Science degree for MMA graduates. Regardless of major, MMA B.Sc. degree recipients may apply to the Loeb-Sullivan graduate school for a one-year fast track to an advanced degree.
- Participation in the Regiment of Midshipmen is optional.
